There’s always a mountain of new music arriving, and picking what to play first can feel impossible.
Every Friday, a bunch of fresh albums drop onto streaming platforms, and this week’s list is pretty wild: Niontay, Maria Somerville, Djrum, William Tyler, Jensen McRae, Fly Anakin, Samia, Nazar, Natural Information Society & Bitchin Bajas, Satomimagae, Emma-Jean Thackray, and Eliana Glass all have new stuff out. If you want someone else to do the picking, there’s even a newsletter that sends suggestions straight to your inbox each week. Just a heads up, the editors pick the music themselves, but they do get a little cash if you buy through some links.
Niontay: Fada [10k]
After making waves with Dontay’s Inferno and the catchy “Thank Allah,” Niontay is back again, showing off his mix of styles that stretch across different places. He grew up in Milwaukee and Florida, and now he’s part of the 10k crew, thanks to MIKE. This new album, Fada, is really special to him—he made it for a friend he lost back in 2009. “Death sucks but we gotta learn to celebrate it and send our loved ones off properly with love,” he shared. “That’s all I’m doing with this music, still tryna have fun and carry my Ole boy’s name and legacy on to the furthest extent despite the ‘reality’ of the situation.” There are features from Mavi, El Cousteau, Sideshow, and Jadasea, plus beats from Tony Seltzer, Surf Gang, and others.
Fans sometimes wish there were more hours in the day just to listen to everything.
You can find Fada on Apple Music, Spotify, Tidal, Amazon Music, or even buy it on Bandcamp.
Maria Somerville: Luster [4AD]
Maria Somerville’s new album, Luster, is also out now, and it’s ready for a listen whenever you are.
