“Insurrection,” a treasure trove of unheard gems by the late Alan Vega of Suicide, is making waves. Slated for a May 31 release on In the Red, the 11-track LP boasts the lead single “Mercy.” Today marks its debut, complete with a music video helmed by Douglas Hart of the Jesus and Mary Chain, featuring Mateen Ismail and Helena Gawrzyalska. Dive into the video below.
Hart delves into the “Mercy” video’s essence, highlighting the rhythmic power of the song through repetitive motions—think doors swinging open and shut. The visual feast is served in stark black and white, splashed with vibrant colors to mirror the music’s rich textures.
Following Vega’s passing in 2016, his circle began piecing together his unreleased works. Sacred Bones took the helm, releasing “Mutator” in 2021, a collection of Vega’s creations from 1996 to 1998 with Liz Lamere, his wife and collaborator.
And then, there’s a nod to Henry Rollins, reflecting on Alan Vega’s profound impact on his life.
“Insurrection” promises a journey through Vega’s visionary soundscape:
01 Sewer
02 Invasion
03 Crash
04 Cyanide Soul
05 Murder One
06 Fireballer Fever
07 Genocide
08 Chains
09 Jet Lord
10 Mercy
11 Fireballer Spirit
