On March 31, Sam Mendes revealed the stars and release date for his Beatles films at CinemaCon in Las Vegas.
In April 2028, four movies will come out, each about a different Beatle: Harris Dickinson as John Lennon, Paul Mescal as Paul McCartney, Joseph Quinn as George Harrison, and Barry Keoghan as Ringo Starr. While Peter Jackson’s documentary The Beatles: Get Back hit screens in 2021, Mendes’ series will be the first scripted ones with rights to their music and stories. Last year saw Keoghan in Fontaines D.C.’s “Bug” music video and Mescal alongside his ex Phoebe Bridgers. Quinn is known for his role as Eddie Munson on Stranger Things, where he even jammed with Metallica in 2022.
We hope these actors meet the real Beatles before filming starts.
Mescal might chat with McCartney soon; he’s already famous from roles like Gladiator II and The Lost Daughter. Keoghan might get tips from Starr but has already been seen in movies like The Batman and Banshees of Inisherin. Dickinson’s past work includes leading roles in films such as Babygirl and The Iron Claw, setting him up well to portray Lennon.
The Beatles themselves made several films back in the day: classics like A Hard Day’s Night, quirky ones like Magical Mystery Tour, and animated fun with Yellow Submarine. They even snagged a Grammy recently for “Now and Then,” an old Lennon demo brought back to life.
