On January 4, President Joe Biden handed out the Presidential Medal of Freedom to 19 people, including Bono, Bill Nye, Denzel Washington, Jane Goodall, Michael J. Fox, Hillary Clinton, Magic Johnson, and Lionel Messi.
“Thank you for all you’ve done to help this country. You all literally embody the nation’s creed,” Biden said. “Your innovation, you inspire, you bring on healing and joy to so many lives that otherwise wouldn’t be touched. You answered the call to serve and led others to do the same thing.”
This special medal is given to those who have done great things for America or helped make the world more peaceful or better in some way. People like Bruce Springsteen and Diana Ross have received it before.
Bono shared his thoughts about helping others through music and being famous in an article he wrote for The Atlantic.
Fans sometimes wonder what makes these awards so special.
