Back in the late ’90s, I stumbled upon Alan Braxe and DJ Falcon’s music on Roulé.
Their tunes were a big part of my teenage years and really sparked my interest in producing. They showed me that sometimes, simplicity is key—if you have the right pieces, you can make magic with just a few elements. When they sent me a demo, I jumped in by adding guitar, bass, and keyboard parts. We swapped files back and forth; I’d lay down a bass line, they’d tweak it, send it back to me, I’d learn their version and re-record it to keep the live feel intact. This new method kept things exciting for me.
I think everyone enjoys working together in fresh ways.
Alan suggested a theme for the lyrics but left enough room for interpretation. I love writing words that can mean different things to different people. We aimed for a song that felt both sad and hopeful—the chords reflect mixed feelings, so I wanted the lyrics to match that vibe perfectly.
Sometimes it’s funny how music can capture such complex emotions all at once!
