Bryan Ferry Releases New Song with Nine Inch Nails

Bryan Ferry has unveiled a brand-new song, his first original piece since 2014โ€™s Avonmore.

This track, called โ€œStar,โ€ started as an idea from Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross of Nine Inch Nails. Ferry, along with singer Amelia Barratt, finished it up. You can watch the video for โ€œStar,โ€ which was directed by Ferry and James Garzke and features Barratt, below. This is the only fresh song on Bryanโ€™s upcoming compilation album Retrospective: Selected Recordings 1973-2023, set to be released on October 5.

After Avonmore, Ferry mainly focused on recording covers, including some of his own songs. He also teamed up with Todd Terje for a cover of Robert Palmerโ€™s โ€œJohnny and Maryโ€ in Terje’s album Itโ€™s Album Time. This track will be the last one on the fifth disc of Retrospective. When they announced this new album, they also shared a cover of Bob Dylan’s song from 1965 called โ€œShe Belongs to Me.โ€

“A couple of years ago I helped her record an audiobook here in my studio. I was very impressed by her writing, and this is the first song we did together. Iโ€™m very excited about this new workโ€”thereโ€™s a lot more to come,” said Ferry about working with Barratt.
