Carly Rae Jepsen & Lena Dunham Join Broadway Musical 10 Things I Hate About You

Carly Rae Jepsen is officially joining the creative team for a Broadway musical based on 10 Things I Hate About You.

After whispers last year, producer Mike Bosner finally confirmed that Carly will be working alongside Ethan Gruska, who has teamed up with Bon Iver before, to put together the show’s songs. The script comes from Lena Dunham and Jessica Huang, with Christopher Wheeldon handling both directing and choreography; Tom Kitt, who already has two Tony Awards, is in charge of all things music like arrangements and orchestrations. No one knows yet when the musical will actually open on Broadway.

Ethan Gruska isn’t new to making cool music—he helped engineer Boygenius’ The Record, which won a Grammy, plus he wrote some tracks for Carly’s 2023 album The Loveliest Time. “So Unimportant” was another project where he worked with Justin Vernon in 2022. Meanwhile, Lena Dunham’s got her own romantic comedy series called Too Much coming out on Netflix soon.

Fans always get really excited when their favorite artists start something unexpected.
