Common, Patti LaBelle, Lil Jon Perform at 2024 Democratic Convention

Last night, the Democratic National Convention continued at Chicagoโ€™s United Center with performances from Common, Patti LaBelle, and Lil Jon.

Common performed his new track โ€œFortunateโ€ and changed some lyrics to cheer for the U.S. Olympic team and Kamala Harris: โ€œFortunate, yo, we got the gold in Paris/We fortunate, yโ€™all, for Kamala Harris!โ€

Patti LaBelle sang her song โ€œYou Are My Friendโ€ during a tribute segment to honor those who have passed away.

Lil Jon took the stage during a roll-call vote celebrating Vice President Kamala Harris and Governor Tim Walz as official nominees. He rapped โ€œTurn Down for Whatโ€ and led chants of โ€œWeโ€™re not going back!โ€ while also shouting over the beat of “Get Low.”

The roll-call vote was mostly symbolic since Harris already secured her nomination through a virtual vote. DJ Cassidy hosted this musical part of the event by playing songs that matched each stateโ€™s vibe as delegates pledged their support. For instance, New Jersey chose Bruce Springsteenโ€™s โ€œBorn in the U.S.A.โ€ The whole process lasted over an hour.

Fans love seeing their favorite artists supporting political events; it makes everything more exciting.

The convention kicked off on Monday, August 19th with Jason Isbell performing “Something More Than Free.”
