Fiona Apple has released a fresh cover of the song “Lately,” found on Tonight I’ll Go Down Swingin’, a tribute album honoring Don Heffington.
This special album, featuring talents like John C. Reilly and Jackson Browne, is available through Nine Mile Records and Clover Music Group. Money from this project helps out the Sweet Relief Musicians Fund. Fiona crafted “Lately” with Sebastian Steinberg on bass and David Garza playing guitar, so go ahead and listen to it below.
Don Heffington often played at Largo in Los Angeles, which Fiona Apple celebrated with a bonus track on her 2012 album, The Idler Wheel…. Sadly, he passed away in March 2021 at 70 due to leukemia complications. The song “Lately” was the final track on his last solo studio album from 2016 called Contemporary Abstractions in Folk Song and Dance.
