Galaxie 500 Announce Archival Album with New Songs

Galaxie 500 is set to release an album filled with rare tracks, B-sides, and some songs that have never been heard before.

The album, Uncollected Noise New York ’88-’90, will be available digitally on September 20 through 20/20/20. Silver Current Records will take care of the vinyl, CD, and cassette versions. You can listen to “Shout You Down” and “I Wanna Live” from the new album below.

They only made three studio albums: Today, On Fire, and This Is Our Music. The song “Shout You Down” is from their Today sessions, while “I Wanna Live” was created during the same time as On Fire.

The band’s singer and guitarist Dean Wareham mentioned that although they initially left these songs out for a reason, there’s now a certain joy in hearing them again; they capture the essence of Galaxie 500 playing in their old rehearsal space at Noise New York.

Bassist Naomi Yang feels nostalgic listening to these early recordings. She talks about how she found her unique sound on the bass guitar back then—creating counter-melodies that complemented the singing.

I think it’s amazing how music can bring back so many memories.
