Jenny Hval is set to release her new album, Iris Silver Mist, on May 2 through 4AD, and you can already check out the first single, “To Be a Rose.”
The music video for “To Be a Rose” shows clips from Jenny’s tours between 2015 and 2024, all put together by Jenny Berger Myhre. Hval shares that the song has a pop feel but with each chorus sounding unique like it’s traveling through time or different people. She talks about how the rose in the song can turn into smoke or even a cigarette and mentions how both she and her mom are part of it: “I was singing in my room, she smoked on the balcony/Long inhales and long exhales performed in choreography.” The song explores change and connection, showing how things transform.
This album follows her last one from 2022 called Classic Objects, featuring 13 tracks. Many songs were tried out live before recording to capture that real music vibe.
