Katy Perry Dodges Dr. Luke Question on Call Her Daddy Podcast

In a chat on the Call Her Daddy podcast, Katy Perry touched on her recent work with Dr. Luke for her singles “Woman’s World” and “Lifetimes.”

Perry has faced criticism for teaming up with Dr. Luke, who had a long legal dispute with Kesha after she accused him of sexual assault in 2014. Although he denied these claims and even sued Kesha for defamation, their conflict ended with a settlement in 2023.

During the podcast, Alex Cooper mentioned that many fans were upset about Perry working with Dr. Luke and asked why she made that choice.

Perry explained, “Look, I understand that it started a lot of conversations, and he was one of many collaborators that I collaborated with, but the reality is it comes from me.” She added that these songs came from her personal experiences during significant life changes and mentioned how Dr. Luke helped bring those songs to life as both a writer and producer.

She elaborated further: “Like when I speak about ‘Woman’s World,’ I speak about feeling so empowered now, as a mother…I created another set of organs, a brain…a whole-ass heart! And I did it.” Perry emphasized how grounded she feels in her role as both an artist and mother while collaborating with various people from different stages of her career.

Fans sometimes find it hard to separate art from the artist’s choices.

“Woman’s World” and “Lifetimes” will be part of Perry’s new album 143, set to release on September 20 through Capitol Records. This will be her first album since Smile, which came out in 2020.

Over the years, Katy Perry has worked closely with Dr. Luke on some major hits like “I Kissed a Girl,” “Hot n Cold,” “Teenage Dream,” among others. Their last collaboration was for her 2013 album Prism. However, they did not work together on either Witness or Smile, which were released after Kesha made allegations against him.
