Laurie Anderson Announces New Album Amelia, Shares Song Road to Mandalay

Laurie Anderson is releasing a new album about Amelia Earhartโ€™s final flight on August 30, titled Amelia.

The first single, โ€œRoad to Mandalay,โ€ gives a glimpse into Andersonโ€™s interpretation of Earhart’s journey. The lyrics are drawn from Amelia’s pilot diaries, telegrams to her husband, and Anderson’s own thoughts on what it must have been like for a woman flying solo around the globe. To bring this vision to life, she’s joined forces with the Czech orchestra Filharmonie Brno led by Dennis Russell Davies, as well as artists like Anohni and Gabriel Cabezas.

Itโ€™s interesting how people can find inspiration in such different places.

This is Andersonโ€™s first full album in six years since her award-winning record Landfall. In 2019, she worked with Tenzin Choegyal and Jesse Paris Smith on Songs From the Bardo, where she read translated passages from The Bardo Thodol. Earlier this year, she was honored with a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.

Amelia‘s tracklist includes:
