After 20 years, Mclusky is back with a brand-new album titled The World Is Still Here and So Are We, set to drop on May 9 through Ipecac.
You can check out their latest single, “Way of the Exploding Dickhead,” which has a fun video directed by Remy Lamont showing silly attempts at self-improvement. Andrew Falkous mentioned that the song’s name takes inspiration from an old video game called The Way of the Exploding Fist on the ZX Spectrum. The lyrics poke fun at how excited people get over expensive concert tickets, describing it as a modern story without any moral lessons.
Falkous leads the band alongside drummer Jack Egglestone, who joined in 2003, and bassist Damien Sayell, who has played with them during various reunions. Their press release says this song is part of a two-track single along with “Unpopular Parts of a Pig.” Both songs are found on their upcoming album alongside “The Digger You Deep,” which was released in 2023.
Mclusky’s last album before they split was The Difference Between Me and You Is That I’m Not on Fire, released in 2004. Afterward, they put out a compilation called Mcluskyism and then went separate ways. Falkous worked on other projects like Future of the Left, which also influenced British rock over the past ten years. Sometimes he played Mclusky songs under slightly different names like Mclusky* or ‘Mclusky’. In 2023, they put out their first single in nearly two decades and now have finally decided to make another album. Whoever wrote their press release—probably Falkous—said they used an asterisk for some time to honor former bandmates but eventually decided to move forward fully.
Fans love when bands come back together after so long!
