Mercury Prize 2024 Shortlist: Charli XCX, Beth Gibbons, Nia Archives

The Mercury Prize has revealed its 2024 nominees.

Among the chosen for best British or Irish album are Charli XCX, Beth Gibbons, Nia Archives, Berwyn, the Last Dinner Party, Barry Can’t Swim, Corinne Bailey Rae, and Ghetts. The complete list is below. Though the winner will be declared in September, there won’t be a public event this year for the first time in 32 years.

Charli XCX shared her excitement on social media after hearing about her nomination. She wrote that she felt honored to see her work appreciated so much and described it as wild and crazy to watch it gain such love.

This year’s judging panel is led by Jeff Smith from BBC Radio 2 and 6 Music. It also includes Jamie Cullum, Mistajam, Jamz Supernova, along with journalists like Phil Alexander, Will Hodgkinson, and Sophie Williams. Last year’s prize went to Ezra Collective—the first jazz artist to win.

I think it’s cool when new genres get recognized.
