Modest Mouse just revealed they’re putting together the very first Psychic Salamander Festival, and it’s happening at Remlinger Farms in Carnation, Washington for two days: September 13 and 14.
The lineup is pretty wild—Isaac Brock’s group will headline both nights, while Built to Spill, Sleater-Kinney, and Flaming Lips are all set to play too; on Sunday, Flaming Lips will play The Soft Bulletin from start to finish. Other acts like Yo La Tengo, Friko, Mattress, The Vaudevillian, Sun Atoms, and Courtney Barnett are joining in as well. Sometimes I wish festivals had more food trucks.
Not long ago at all (earlier this month), Modest Mouse shared plans for another festival called Ice Cream Floats that’ll take place on a cruise ship—the Norwegian Pearl—in 2026. That sounds super random but also kind of fun. Right now they’re busy touring with the Flaming Lips all over the world; their shows stretch through September with stops across Europe, Canada, the U.K., and lots of places in the U.S.
Fans wonder if there will be any surprise guests or weird stage props this time around.
Last year was big too—they brought back their classic album Good News for People Who Love Bad News for its twentieth birthday by releasing a new version. And don’t forget: “The Lonesome Crowded West” landed at number 125 on “The 150 Best Albums of the 1990s.” If you want to remember what Modest Mouse sounded like in 2021 go listen to The Golden Casket.
