Monsters of Folk debut album reissue announcement and archival song release

Monsters of Folk are re-releasing their only album on June 14, including five new songs recorded in 2012.

You can listen to one of the new tracks called “Disappeared” right now. The original group included Conor Oberst and Mike Mogis from Bright Eyes, Jim James from My Morning Jacket, and M. Ward. The additional tracks feature Will Johnson from Centro-Matic.

Johnson shared that the recording session felt spontaneous and joyful, especially watching Jim play drums with so much energy.

James said creating the album reminded him of his early days in music when everything was fresh and exciting. He loved working with people he doesn’t usually play with.

Oberst mentioned it was incredible to see how Jim and M. work on their music; their unique styles were very inspiring for him then and still are today.

Ward added that debut albums have a special freedom because there’s no past to influence them—they just followed where the songs led them. 🎸

The other unreleased songs include “Dear to the Assassin,” “Sweet Silence,” “The Living Thing,” and “Museum Guard.” ATO Records is handling the reissue.
