New Roy Hargrove Album: Listen to Priorities

Verve Records is putting out a new album by Roy Hargrove’s ensemble, Crisol, called Grande-Terre, on October 18.

You can check out the fresh track “Priorities” below. The group only made one studio album, Habana, while Hargrove was alive, and it won them a Grammy for Best Latin Jazz Performance in 1998.

The award-winning Habana featured Roy Hargrove on trumpet and flugelhorn, Frank Lacy on trombone, David Sánchez playing soprano and tenor saxophones, Gary Bartz on alto and soprano saxophones, John Benitez handling bass duties, Miguel “Anga” Díaz and José Luis “Changuito” Quintana on percussion, Horacio “El Negro” Hernández drumming away, Russell Malone strumming the guitar, and Chucho Valdés tickling the piano keys.

Many of these talented musicians came back to work on Grande-Terre. Returning are Roy Hargrove himself (of course), Frank Lacy, Miguel “Anga” Díaz, and José Luis “Changuito” Quintana. New faces in the mix include Sherman Irby on alto saxophone; Jacques Schwarz-Bart playing tenor saxophone; pianists Gabriel Hernández and Larry Willis; guitarist Ed Cherry; bassist Gerald Cannon; drummer/vocalist Julio Barreto; plus another drummer Willie Jones.

Sadly, Roy Hargrove passed away in 2018 at just 49 years old.

I think fans really miss him a lot.

The new album features ten tracks:

01 Rumba Roy
02 Audrey
03 Lake Danse
04 Kamala’s Dance
05 B and B
06 Another Time
07 Lullaby From Atlantis
08 Afreaka
09 Ethiopia
10 Priorities
