New Sade Song, André 3000, Moses Sumney on Red Hot Compilation Transa

Red Hot Organization has unveiled a new compilation album called Transa, which aims to honor and celebrate trans people.

This album, featuring the first new song from Sade in years, a 30-minute piece by André 3000, Moses Sumney’s cover of SOPHIE, an old track by Pharoah Sanders, and many more artists like Fleet Foxes, Yaeji, Perfume Genius, L’Rain, Adrianne Lenker, Sam Smith, Beverly Glenn-Copeland, and Clairo will be released on November 22. You can check out Lauren Auder and Wendy & Lisa’s rendition of Prince’s “I Would Die 4 U” below.

Transa, written as TRAИƧA, is split into eight parts: “Womb of the Soul,” “Survival,” “Dark Night,” “Awakening,” “Grief,” “Acceptance,” “Liberation,” and “Reinvention.” These sections include songs from over 100 artists like Jeff Tweedy, Grouper, Hunter Schafer, Julien Baker, Laura Jane Grace, Lee Renaldo. There are also tracks by Bartees Strange and Devendra Banhart among others.

In 2021 producers Dust Reid and Massima Bell started working on Transa. They wanted it to reflect the eight stripes of the rainbow pride flag. They brought in trans and nonbinary musicians for this project while connecting them with their musical idols.

“We began discussing all the amazing contributions trans artists have made to the world," said Reid. "We wanted a Red Hot project that focused on these gifts.” Reid added that they aimed to show trans and non-binary people as leaders because of their inner work in affirming their identities. According to him: "Everyone should explore their gender deeply. If we did this collectively—trans or not—we might create a future based on community values.”

Fans believe this initiative is crucial for fostering understanding between different communities.
