Pulp is making a comeback with their new album More, set to release on June 6 through Rough Trade.
The band, known for its lasting impact on indie-pop, recorded the album at Orbb Studio in London over just three weeks in November 2024 with James Ford producing. Jarvis Cocker mentioned, “This is the shortest amount of time a Pulp album has ever taken to record,” and added, “It was obviously ready to happen.” You can check out the video for their single “Spike Island,” directed by Cocker himself.
This music video explores artificial intelligence by using Rankin & Donald’s photos from the Different Class inlay. Cocker input these images into an AI app and experimented with prompts like, “The black & white figure remains still whilst the bus in the background drives off.” He shared that working on this video made him see his surroundings differently and remarked, “My final thought? H.I. Forever!”
More includes contributions from Richard Hawley and Jason Buckle, each composing music for a song. The Eno family lent their voices for backing vocals on one track, while Richard Jones arranged strings performed by the Elysian Collective.
Cocker explained:
This is our first album since 2001’s “We Love Life.” Yes: it’s been 24 years since our last release.
How did that happen?
Well: after we started touring again in 2023, we tried out a new song called “Hymn of the North” during soundchecks and eventually played it live at Sheffield Arena. That moment seemed to unlock everything: we created more songs throughout early 2024. Some ideas were actually from years ago! Richard Hawley wrote one song’s music; Jason Buckle did another’s. The Enos sing backup on one track too. And there’s beautiful string work arranged by Richard Jones performed by Elysian Collective.
I think fans have been waiting long enough for this!
The recording took place over three weeks starting November 18th, 2024—our quickest yet!
