A massive $1 million has been promised by the Recording Academy and MusiCares to help musicians and music workers affected by the wildfires raging through Los Angeles.
โThe entire Grammy family is shocked and deeply saddened by the situation that is unfolding in Los Angeles,โ said Harvey Mason Jr., CEO of Recording Academy and MusiCares. โThe music community is being so severely impacted but we will come together as an industry to support one another. Our organizations exist to serve music people because music is a powerful force for good in the world, and we hope the broader industry will now rally to this cause.โ
Laura Segura, who leads MusiCares, mentioned how crucial it is for everyone to chip in during these tough times since many have lost their homes overnight. She emphasized that MusiCares is always ready to jump in when things get rough, offering both immediate help and long-term support.
Musicians like Zachary Cole Smith from Diiv, indie rapper Fat Tony, and Tim Darcy from Ought have been hit hard by these fires; they’ve lost their homes along with everything inside. People are turning to GoFundMe pages hoping for some assistance.
Sadie Dupuis shared a spreadsheet listing those in the music world whoโve lost their homes. It includes links where fans can donate directly to help folks like Smith, Fat Tony, and Darcy.
A lot of artists are spreading information about helpful resources such as LAFD Foundation or Mutual AID LA Network among others .
