Spirit of the Beehive just dropped two new tracks from their upcoming album, You’ll Have to Lose Something.
The songs, “Something’s Ending” and “I’ve Been Evil,” come with a combined music video. It starts off eerie in black-and-white but then turns into a colorful tale about murder, escape, and life in the countryside. You can check out the Kelsea Dakota Larson-directed video below.
The director shared that she and her partner Jim had been looking for the perfect project to film in rural Appalachia since they moved there. When they heard these tracks, they knew it was the one. They wanted to show how darkness can hide in plain sight even in a beautiful mountain town or anywhere else while outsiders remain oblivious.
You’ll Have to Lose Something is Spirit of the Beehive’s fifth studio album and follows their 2021 release Entertainment, Death. The new album will be out on August 23 via Saddle Creek and features 12 songs including “Let the Virgin Drive” and a track with MSPaint.
I think it’s cool how music videos can tell such deep stories.
After dropping their album, Spirit of the Beehive will start their headlining tour this fall. It kicks off on September 24 in Boston and takes them across the US and Canada until it ends on November 9 back home in Philadelphia.
