The Get Up Kids 25th Anniversary Reissue Announcement

The Get Up Kids are celebrating the 25th anniversary of their second album with a special edition release. Something to Write Home About (25th Anniversary Deluxe Edition) will be available online on August 23 and in stores on September 20 through Polyvinyl. They’ve also put out a fresh music video for “Holiday” and discovered an old demo of the same song, which you can see below.

Matt Pryor reflected on the past saying, “Watching this video is like seeing old home videos from when we were kids. It’s strange to think back to when we finished the album but no one had heard it yet. We spent a tough year making it, and once it was out, we gave it our all. I remember many shows vividly, especially at Fireside Bowl in Chicago—it felt like our second home. The young guys you see in these clips had no clue how much this album would change things for us or that we’d still be talking about it after 25 years.”

This new version of Something to Write Home About comes with a colorful 28-page booklet and a vinyl record featuring rare or never-before-heard demos. Starting on August 23rd, coinciding with its digital release, they’ll begin their North American tour where they’ll play the entire album live. This tour goes through autumn with Smoking Popes opening for them.

The band originally split up in 2005 but reunited three years later, continuing to perform since then. They released their comeback album in 2011 titled There Are Rules, followed by Problems in 2019.

I think it’s really cool how music can bring back so many memories.
