Wilco Announces A Ghost Is Born Reissue & New Handshake Drugs Version

Wilco is planning to re-release their album A Ghost Is Born from 2004, and itโ€™s packed with a whopping 65 tracks that nobody has heard before, including different versions and songs left out back then.

The new edition of the album will be available on February 7, 2025, through Nonesuch. It comes in two choices: a big set with nine CDs or an even bigger one with nine LPs and four CDs. Both sets include a live concert from Boston’s Wang Center from 2004 and a fancy book filled with photos and notes by Bob Mehr. You can check out an alternate version of “Handshake Drugs,” recorded in New York in 2003. And if youโ€™re curious about whatโ€™s on the digital version, keep reading for the tracklist.

Jeff Tweedy shared his thoughts about the album in the liner notes: โ€œI was worried the album was going to feel like something dark and not me anymore. But the album was ahead of me as a person. It was the part of me that I was trying to preserveโ€”enthusiastic and furious about the world, as well as open and loving. I reached that in the music before I could get there emotionally on my own.โ€

People sometimes find it amazing how music can capture feelings we donโ€™t fully understand yet.
