Zombies Founder Rod Argent Retires From Touring After Stroke

Rod Argent, the main songwriter and keyboard player for the Zombies, is retiring from touring after suffering a stroke.

After coming back home to London from a tour, Rod had a stroke and spent the night in the hospital. His doctors said he needs to rest for several months. The news was shared by Rodโ€™s team at Rocks Management today.

Chris Tuthill and Cindy da Silva explained that Rod decided to stop touring because of his health. He had already been thinking about slowing down due to past health issues on tours, but this stroke was a clear sign that itโ€™s too risky. Even though he wonโ€™t be touring anymore, Rod plans to keep writing and recording music with the Zombies. Heโ€™s even been playing piano again for some “Bach therapy.”

The Zombies started in 1961 in St Albans with Rod and Colin Blunstone as singer. They were one of the first UK bands after the Beatles to hit No. 1 in America with songs like โ€œSheโ€™s Not There,โ€ โ€œTell Her No,โ€ and โ€œTime of the Season.โ€

I think it’s so important to listen to our bodies when they give us warning signs.

Rod first stopped touring with the Zombies in 1975 so he could spend more time with his family and work on songwriting and producing. But then Colin asked him to do six solo shows in 1999, which led to another 25 years of performing together!
